The multiple cores of the processor help when you want to run more than one application at the same time. This portable monster can be outfitted with up to an Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics, and has a ton of RGB customization options that make it truly deserving of the Alienware name. When you feel ambitious enough to run very demanding games on your PC, don’t you feel frustrated each time the game runs slowly? I don’t spend much time playing video games anymore, but its nice to know I can play one of those with no guilt about using proprietary garbage at least. I also know
that mips isn’t really sold as a chip so much as a library you take to a fab
that burns chips for you with lots of integrated peripherals. I work on computers for a living, and this T400 has proven to be one of the most difficult laptops to take completely apart; it is not for the faint of heart. It has a sleek design that’s easy to take with you anywhere, and has a nice selection of ports if you also want to plug in a bunch of peripherals. That’s not double, only about 33-50%. To be fair, the shader count only increased 66%, but I don’t want fair, I want results.
Use it as a guide if you need to buy new hardware but keep in mind software is evolving and your results may vary. Speaking to other gamers about the systems they use can be helpful. 1080p is totally out of the question with this laptop, but this monitor allows me to use good old 640×480 which allows my games to perform admirably. With the dock being fully functional, I have connected an old 5:4 monitor that uses 1280×1024 screen resolution as well as my amazing Unicomp keyboard, and a slightly cringe RGB mouse from Rosewill (I don’t know of any quality mice that aren’t made for l33t gaymers besides trackballs which I do not want. Reboot a few more times, native resolution is back. Playing games on gaming laptop is more effective and reasonable. SSDs are well suited for the gaming laptop and as the demand of consumers gets stronger, SSD’s future looks very promising. Laptops they produce are a gaming powerhouse. But, the word “gaming” is not necessarily incompatible with laptops that cost under $500.
